Dôvera Acquires Union: The Era of Three Health Insurers in Slovakia Comes to an End. What Should Clients Do?
A historic event is taking place in the Slovak health insurance market: Dôvera has signed an agreement to acquire Union zdravotná poisťovňa. If the transaction is approved by regulatory authorities, Slovakia's system of three competing health insurance companies will become a thing of the past.
The merger under a single brand will affect nearly 2.5 million people — practically half of Slovakia's population. Naturally, insured individuals are asking: "Do I need to take any action right now, and how will this affect my medical treatment?"
In our latest YouTube video, we cover this topic in detail and answer all the key questions.

Main Takeaway: Don't Panic!
As we explain in the video, clients of either company do not need to take any urgent action. Merging large financial institutions takes time. At this stage, all medical services, prescriptions, planned surgeries, and doctor consultations remain fully operational as usual.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Do I need to notify my employer or general practitioner? No. No administrative action is required on your part. You can continue visiting your doctors and working without filing any applications or updating your records.
Will funds meant for medical treatment be used to buy the company? No, absolutely not. The acquisition of Union is financed exclusively by Dôvera’s shareholders, not from the public health insurance budget. All funds dedicated to healthcare services remain completely secure.
What will happen to Union's commercial insurance (car, property, travel)? It will continue operating without any changes. The deal involves only health insurance (Union zdravotná poisťovňa). Commercial insurer Union poisťovňa, a.s. remains in the Slovak market, continuing to service all policies (PZP, KASKO, property, life, and travel insurance) as normal.
What Will Happen to Insurance Cards, Bonuses, and Contracts?
Insurance Cards: Your current physical plastic cards and digital cards in mobile apps remain fully valid.
Healthcare Provider Contracts: All existing contracts between insurance companies, hospitals, and clinics remain in effect.
Bonuses and Loyalty Programs: Benefit programs (for dental care, eyewear, medications) remain valid under current rules at least until the end of the calendar year.
